SEPTEMBER IN VERMONT

September is a wonderful time to be in Vermont.  The temperature is still warm, but there is also a hint of the beautiful fall colors soon to come.  In addition to all the wonderful activities we have planned for the convention, there are plenty of things to do and see in the Burlington area.  Since the Sheraton Burlington is making our convention rates available to us for two days prior and to days after our convention, it will be a wonderful time to visit some of the wonderful area attractions including the world famous Shelburne Museum.

Burlington features two attractions that offer a variety of things to see and do.  The Church Street Market Place is a vibrant pedestrian only streetscape in the heart of Burlington that features a wonderful array of shopping and inside and outside dining.  Burlington will be hosting two street festivals the same weekend as our convention - Marketfest, as well as the nearby South End Art Hop

Burlington’s Waterfront offers a boardwalk on the western shore on New England overlooking picturesque Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains.  The boardwalk is a portion of the Burlington Bike Path which is part of the Island Line bike path stretching 12.5 miles from Oakledge Park in Burlington to the
Colchester causeway in the middle of Lake Champlain.  This easy to ride bike and walking trail follows the old Rutland Railroad right-of-way north out of Burlington across a pedestrian only through truss bridge over the Winooski River and on to the causeway the railroad built.   Whether you want to rent bikes to ride the entire trail, sit and enjoy the beautiful scenery near the Burlington Boathouse, visit the Echo Lake Aquarium and Science Center, take a tour cruise, or enjoy a meal at one of the nearby restaurants, this is a place to visit during your stay in Burlington.

Burlington's Waterfront:   http://www.enjoyburlington.com/Parks.cfm

With its spectacular views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains, Burlington's waterfront is one of the community's most important visual and recreational resources; and rather than being a far-flung attraction, our waterfront actually marks the western edge of the downtown area. Over the last decade, the city has improved park and open space and made infrastructure improvements to ensure pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle access (and a free College Street Shuttle connects the Church Street Marketplace, the University of Vermont and Waterfront). It provides a sweeping range of cultural, recreational, social, and economic activities for the entire community.
