This HO layout's ERA is 1955. It is controlled by Digitrax DCC. The layout is a freelanced version of the Great Northern in Washington, Oregon and Northern California. It fills the better part of a 21' x 35' room located on the second floor of a garage. It is operated with a car card system in a point-to-point manner. For display, it can be operated in a continuous double loop. First generation diesels are the main motive power, with some late model steam locomotives helping out from time to time. There are two major yards, a small seaport, quarry, coal tipple and a major industrial area. The majority of traffic is freight, but there are also a couple of passenger trains. The layout is best operated by a crew of 8 to 10 people. The layout was featured in the September 2009 issue of Model Railroader magazine.
